Richard Barker

Richard is an intelligent, intensely observant and gifted cartoonist who lives In inner Launceston and whose work you now have the rare opportunity to look at in its original state .. and even to buy these extraordinary sheets, frame them and say - “This man is one of us - how good that is !!” Here is what he wrote for us about his connection to the Art of Comic Making : “I’ve been reading comics for as long as I could read. I started making comics sometime in the first decade of the new century via a slow process of devolution. I had initially wanted to be a computer animator but realised after a few years of honing the necessary skills that it was going to take hundreds of hours staring at a screen to bring even a simple idea to life, not to mention having to use a host of over-complicated and expensive equipment to get the job done. I finally pushed all that complexity aside and settled down to make comics; then I kept on simplifying until I was making comic strips with the same tools as cartoonists used a century ago: a sheet of paper and a pen dipped in ink. “When I’m not making comics, I work part-time at the university, host the occasional show on community radio, play music with my friends, and read lots of books and ponderous essays about the meaning of life and the fate of civilisation.” You can buy: A4 sheets $75 each/ A3 sheets $125 each
